Orland Park Technology Commission Seeks Village Residents' Input

Orland Park residents are invited to share their input on the future of online services in the Village of Orland Park.

The village’s technology commission has created a survey asking residents what online village services they currently use and what they’d like to see.

“This is a great way for the community to share their feedback with the village,” said Trustee Jim Dodge, chair of the village’s Technology, Innovation and Performance Committee. “We already offer some online services and we’re eager to learn what residents would like to be able to do online.”

The 26-question survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and can be accessed via the link below.  

Questions range from what online village services residents currently utilize to what they’d like to see offered. The survey also asks how residents receive news from the village, whether they visit the village website or social media outlets.

“It’s not a technical survey,” said Frank Florentine, director of business information systems for the village. “It’s pretty basic, asking how residents currently interact with the village online and what they’d like to see available.”

Florentine added, “We’re looking at making as many services and as much information available digitally as possible.”

Orland Park’s current online services include registering for some recreation programs, paying water bills, registering for Code Red Alerts and being notified when items of interest are added to the village’s website.

“It’s interesting to see how people get their information about the village,” Dodge added. “We have a growing population on the village’s main social media outlets --- Facebook, Twitter and Instagram --- with specialized information being available on social media pages hosted by the Police and Recreation Departments and the village’s history museum. Most people probably visit the village’s website when looking for specific information.”

Dodge noted that he and his fellow village board members want to use more technology to save people trips to the village hall, making it easier to engage all village services and reduce costs.

“This is part of our journey towards digital transformation,” Dodge said.

Orland Park’s technology survey will be available until June 30, 2018 with results being shared on the village’s social media outlets.
