1. How were the mediators trained?

The mediators have received professional training from experienced, practicing mediators.

The training followed the guidelines established by the U.S. Justice Department. Mediators were taught not to take sides, not to impose judgments, and not to dictate solutions or outcomes.

2. Is the mediation confidential?

Yes. Mediators receive special training on the importance of secrecy. They follow strict rules and procedures to assure information about the case is kept confidential.

3. Is there a charge?

No. Mediation services are available free to all residents of the Village of Orland Park.

4. Who are the mediators?

They are Village residents, like yourself. They volunteer time and effort to help resolve conflicts and live in harmony with their neighbors.

5. Will I know my mediators?

Absolutely not. The mediators who are chosen for a case do not know persons on either side of the conflict. They must have no previous knowledge of the situation.

6. Where are the mediation meetings held?

The meeting will be in a safe and completely neutral location, usually in the Village Hall or Police Headquarters.
