Refuse, Recycling & Yard Waste
Orland Park residents receive refuse, recycling, and yard waste service from Waste Management, Inc. In November 2013, the village entered into a ten-year agreement with Waste Management. The agreement took effect November 1, 2013. As part of this agreement, residents received carts for garbage disposal and the collection of recyclables was increased to weekly service. Each household receiving curbside waste collection also receives a 96-gallon container.

The gray refuse carts have hinged lids to contain wastes and discourage animals and are also equipped with wheels, making it easier for residents to move their trash to the curbs. Households will continue to use the current blue recycling carts for recyclable goods.

Village residents who previously rented gray refuse carts kept those carts, but rental fees ceased. Residents who previously purchased waste wheeler carts received new carts unless they notified Waste Management that they did not need a new one. There is no charge for the initial cart delivery. If you have additional questions about the carts or service, please contact Waste Management at 1-800-796-9696 or see our Frequently Asked Questions.

Residents are able to purchase or rent additional carts for refuse, recycling or yard waste by calling Waste Management.

Yard waste is collected by Waste Management on regularly scheduled collection days April 1 through the second week of December each year.  See the Yard Waste page for more details.

Recyclables collected by Waste Management include paper and cardboard, metals, glass and plastics.

Residents should place their recyclables, trash and yard waste at their curbs by 6 a.m. on their collection days.
When placing the wheeled toters curbside, the wheels should be toward the house with the containers three feet apart so the truck’s automated arm can easily pick up and empty each bin. Residents are reminded that toters should not be placed in the street and should be placed on the parkway at the curb.

Hours and Holiday Schedule

Waste Management is closed on the following holidays: January 1st, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.  Regular pick-up is delayed one day on and after a holiday during those weeks.

Christmas Tree/Wreath Collection
Waste Management provides two weeks of collection for Christmas trees/wreaths etc.  These collections are held on the first two scheduled collections in January. There is no additional charge to residents for this collection, however Christmas trees larger than 5 feet in height are required to be cut into sections no longer than 4 feet long.
