Award of Excellence
At the 2007 annual meeting, the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the Home Depot Foundation presented Mayor McLaughlin with an Award of Excellence for Community Trees and Urban Forestry. The award recognizes communities that have used trees to promote healthy communities, and was presented to four communities out of a nationwide field of applicants. The award was presented in recognition of the village’s tree programs, which includes the Open Lands Program.

Orland Park was a runner up in the program’s "under 100,000 in population" category, and received a $25,000 grant that will be used for its open lands efforts. “It’s something that we’re very proud of,” Mayor McLaughlin said. “Orland Park prides itself on the many attributes that make our village a desirable place to live. These awards are a testament to the hard work of many people that have made these programs possible.”
