Smart Codes
Smart Codes LogoSmart Codes are part of the overall effort to become a more sustainable and dynamic community.  To accomplish many of the green initiatives outlined in the other Smart Living Orland Park branches, codes must be updated to enable the planning and implementation of green technologies and methods that conserve resources and dynamically approach sustainability and stewardship.  In the long term these save money in infrastrcture and use costs and the environment.  Key features of Smart Codes include:

Renewable energy codes to enable wind, solar, geothermal and biomass energy conversion systems; electric vehicle charging stations.
Storm water management techniques and other green infrastructure systems like green roofs, rain gardens and barrels, storm water cisterns, bio-swales, native vegetation, porous pavers and pavements, and street edge alternatives (SEA).
Water conservation strategies and programs (local and state sponsored).
Amending existing codes with green or smart standards for development and subdivision regulations, zoning provisions, and building codes (i.e. electric, plumbing etc.) for sustainable high performance development.

Orland Park Water Conservation Program Draft Report
The Village of Orland Park worked with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) to develop new water conservation codes, programs and incentives for the local potable water system. CMAP's Local Technical Assistance (LTA) grant program provided the funding and the resources to develop the report.

More information and a copy of the draft report can be found here.
