Orland Park's Green Initiatives
Crayon Recycling
Wondering what to do with all those old crayons?
Grant Funding
The grant that is funding some of the initiatives in ECOMAP is called the Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (EECBG). EECBG is a block grant directly from the U.S. Department of Energy funded by the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009.
Green Team
Our Green Teams will visit Orland Park businesses to discuss what they can do to save money and help the environment at the same time.
Green Tent
There are hundreds of ways you can contribute to a
healthier environment. But where do you start?
Here are 13 easy first steps to a greener life.
Green Tent Challenge
We have provided you a list of simple things you can do to get started becoming “Environmentally Friendly” around your own home. If you can prove to us that you are committed to becoming earth friendly by showing us a receipt or a picture of your improvement, you can earn prizes!
Orland Hour
We are taking Earth Hour one step further. Beginning June 3 the village will be initiating Orland Hour. Every day, Monday - Friday from 12pm-1pm all nonessential lighting will be turned off in all village buildings. We encourage all business and residents to do the same.
Green Workshops
The Recreation Department presents its Green Workshops offering educational programs to help you: spend less green to get more green; become earth friendly and environmentally savvy while updating your home’s curb appeal; build a bird bath out of a hosta leaf; composting table scraps made easy; tasty and aromatic herbs brighten a kitchen and add zest to Italian cuisine; breathe easier at home with air filtering plants; create a high compliment, low maintenance living centerpiece.
Residential Rewards
The Residential Rewards program provides interested residents with ideas, concepts, and savings to upgrade their homes and offer alternative products and designs for green modifications.
TerraCycle
The Village of Orland Park Recreation and Parks Department in cooperation with TerraCycle, is recycling to benefit Open Lands of Orland Park. For every drink pouch or writing instrument collected $0.02 goes to Open Lands. TerraCycle upcycles old materials into cool new products and are sold to major retailers.
