143rd Street & LaGrange Road Intersection
The Mayor and Trustees have made a commitment to the Village residents to improve the quality of the streets and traffic flow in Orland Park.  The intersection of 143rd Street and LaGrange Road is one of the many improvements that has been pursued and is now nearly completed.

The intersection improvements span from the METRA overpass to 144th Place on LaGrange Road and on 143rd Street, from Beacon Avenue to 95th Avenue.

Utility improvements and utility relocations were needed prior to the start of the roadway construction.  Those improvements were completed in 2010.

The illustrations below show how the intersection looked prior to the watermain and utility construction in 2010 and the conceptual views of the completed project after the lane and aesthetic improvements. The Streetscape renderings can be found in the E-Services Document Center under Public Works, Streets or by clicking on: StreetScape.

The Village's portion of the pavement construction for the intersection is completed.
Traffic moving through the multi-year 143rd Street and LaGrange Road reconstruction and widening project have been returned to their proper lanes.  Six new concrete through lanes, and four turn lanes were constructed on LaGrange Road, and four through lanes and six turn lanes were also constructed on 143rd Street between March and October.  The project included brick paver crosswalks in key locations, including the first-ever brick paver crosswalk crossing a Federal/State roadway in the State of Illinois.  The project also included new sidewalks, landscaping and extensive ornate aesthetic enhancements.

All lanes are now open for traffic, with the exception of lanes on LaGrange Road that will not be placed in service as directed by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).  The outside lanes in both directions on LaGrange Road from 143rd Street north to the Metra overpass will remain closed for an extended period of time as work continues on adjoining IDOT widening and bridge projects.

There is work remaining to be completed on the intersection improvement.  Workers will be present as long as weather permits to complete traffic signals, roadway lighting, landscaping and the intricate aesthetic enhancements that are a part of this project.
Work that cannot be completed due to weather will be completed in Spring, 2012.
