J.U.L.I.E. (Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators)
is a free service for residents and businesses planning to dig
on their property for any reason.
Before digging for anything, everyone in the Village must call
J.U.L.I.E. at (800) 892-0123 or simply dial 811. Newly added
to the J.U.L.I.E. is the ability to make a request through their
website. If you are planting or digging just go to their webiste
J.U.L.I.E. and make your request a minimum of 2 days prior to
your digging.
This
free service notifies all entities having underground utilities
including companies such as
ComEd, NiCor,
Ameritech,
AT&T,
Comcast Cable, and the Village to mark their lines before digging
begins. The Village will mark its water line on public property in
subdivisions that have been accepted and will only mark from the
main line to the buffalo box in the parkway.
The owner must have individual water services marked from the
b-box to the residence or place of business. Those who do not
call J.U.L.I.E. before digging are subject to significant fines.
