County Seeks Public Input for Natural Hazards

County Seeks Public Input for Natural Hazards
Posted on 12/03/2013

A coalition of Cook County cities, villages and agencies has initiated a planning process to prepare for the impacts of natural disasters in Cook County. During this process, citizens will be asked to contribute by sharing their knowledge about their own area’s vulnerability to hazards based on past occurrences. The public is encouraged to provide input on all phases of this plan’s development.

Cook County has scheduled three public meetings to be held in December. At these meetings, residents can learn about the natural hazards that Cook County faces and how vulnerable homes may be.

Computer workstations set up at the meetings will show which natural hazards have the potential to affect your property. Information at the meetings will explain the steps you can take to reduce the impact of those hazards on your property and your family.

All are encouraged to attend one of these important meetings, which will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the following dates and locations:

December 9, 2013
Village of Homewood
Village Hall Board Room
2020 Chestnut Road

December 11, 2013
Village of Northbrook
1st Floor Board Room
1225 Cedar Lane

December 12, 2013
Village of Westchester
Village Hall Board Room
10300 W. Roosevelt Road

A public information survey is also available for you to provide input on your personal experiences with natural hazards in Cook County.

Access the survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CookCountyHazMit

It will take only about 10 minutes to complete and will provide important information to the team preparing the plan and working to identify ways to reduce Cook County’s vulnerability to natural hazards.

An informational website on the plan has been established at:

http://www.cookcountyhomelandsecurity.org/hazard-mitigation-plan/

This website will serve as the primary means for the public to gain information on the plan and ways to participate in the planning process. Information on the public meetings can also be found on this website.
