Mayor Invites Life Saving OPPD Officer to Participate In Pre-Game Event

ORLAND PARK, IL — The Village of Orland Park's Grand Slam Event with the Chicago White Sox has become an annual favorite for baseball fans from throughout the region.

Orland Park Night 2019 at Guaranteed Rate Field is Tuesday, July 2 at 7:10 p.m. when the White Sox host the Detroit Tigers.

“Orland Park has hosted its White Sox Grand Slam Event for several years,” said Mayor Keith Pekau. “It’s a great night for baseball and a great night for Orland Park.”

Mayor Pekau has invited Orland Park Police Officer Kerry Kelly-Valan to be recognized during an on-field pre-game event.

“First responders go above and beyond every day,” the mayor said. “Orland Park is fortunate to have officers like Kelly-Valan serving our community and we want all first responders to know that we are grateful for all that they do.”

On November 14, Orland Park police responded to a call for a person standing on the ledge of a fourth floor parking deck. Kelly-Valan, a member of the department’s crisis intervention team, was one of the first to arrive.

Kelly-Valan approached the subject, began talking to him, and continued to close in while three other officers moved in out of the subject’s view. When she was close enough, Kelly-Valan grabbed the young man, pulling him to safety as her fellow officers swarmed and pulled Kelly-Valan and the young man to the ground.

“Officer Kelly-Valan is a crisis intervention trained officer and she engaged the subject to get close enough to pull the young man from the ledge with the other officers quickly closing in,” said Orland Park Police Chief Tim McCarthy.

“We train our officers to protect and serve --- to preserve life and property,” the chief said. “Officer Kelly-Valan risked her own life to save another and her fellow officers acted promptly and swiftly to help her.”

Specially priced game tickets are available with lower box reserved seats available for $26.88.  Outfield reserved are $14.56 and bleachers are $12.32. The Orland Park event also offers parking passes for $20.

The mayor added, “We invite everyone to celebrate Orland Park with the White Sox as we honor one of our own, Orland Park Police Officer Kerry Kelly-Valan.”

Tickets and parking passes may be purchased online at fevo.me/VOP.

Downloadable order forms can be found on the village’s website at https://bit.ly/2KHIAaD.

Transportation is not included. Attendees need not live in Orland Park. The event is open to everyone.
