Orland Park Mayor Dan McLaughlin and Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Dan Patlak will co-host a free property tax assessment appeal seminar on Monday, December 19, 2016 at the Orland Park Civic Center, 14750 South Ravinia Avenue.

The 6:30 p.m. seminar will help taxpayers learn how to file tax appeals and will address why property taxes continue to increase when home values decline.

"Orland Township is currently open for appeals through January 3, 2017," McLaughlin said. "We invite everyone to come learn how to file appeals if they believe their property has been wrongly assessed."

Patlak will explain the appeal procedure at the Board of Review and staff will be present to answer questions.

The seminar is free and open to the public and there is no charge to appeal at the Board of Review. Taxpayers are asked to bring copies of their most recent tax bills.

"It's very important for anyone in Orland Township who wants to appeal their property taxes to know the procedures that must be followed --- and file within the allowed time frame," McLaughlin said.

Appeal forms can also be obtained at the Board of Review located at 118 N. Clark Street-Room 601 in Chicago or at the Markham Office, 16501 Kedzie Ave., Room 237, Markham, IL 60426. Taxpayers may also file an appeal online by visiting the Board of Review website at www.cookcountyboardofreview.com.
