Registration Open for Recreation Department Winter Activities for All Ages

The Orland Park Recreation Department’s winter/spring program guide is packed with activities to keep everyone in the family fit and busy during the colder months. There is a mix of youth sports programs that are now open for registration.

My First Sports Class is open to children ages 18 months to two years of age and introduces soccer, basketball, T-ball and other sports. Mini Dribblers Basketball, Peewee Floor Hockey, Pip Squeak Soccer and Little Swingers Indoor T-ball is open to children ages three to six. Sports of All Sorts is an afterschool program focusing on organized sports for kindergarten through second grade students. Parent/Child Soccer begins in April and is open to three, four and five-year-olds.

South Suburban Tennis Academy (SSTA) provides tennis lessons to youths of all ages, starting as young as age four up to adults.

Football players and fitness buffs are invited to the first annual football combine on Saturday, February 6 from 9 a.m. to noon. at the Sportsplex soccer field. Test your NFL skills including a 40-yard dash, vertical leap, three-cone drill, shuttle runs and more. The cost is $20 for residents, $30 for non-residents and $15 for members.

Cross Challenge workout is back with three sessions beginning January 12. This intermediate to advanced level workout combines cardio, strength, gymnastics, ab work and functional training during the 55 minute class. This high burst interval workout is open to everyone 16 and older, and space is limited to 12 individuals. Classes are Tuesday and Friday at 9 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Thursdays. The cost is $90 for residents, $135 for non-residents and $85 for members.

Use this winter season to challenge yourself and win a month-long membership. Sportsplex members can now sign-up for the Colors Competition starting on February 1. This eight-week fitness challenge involves teams of five to eight members, and awards points for each day the members work out. The team with the most points is awarded an additional month membership. Each participant receives a free T—shirt. The cost is $15 and only open to Sportsplex members. More details to be released the first of the year.
