"Orland Park prides itself on offering special events throughout the year, appealing to all age groups," said Orland Park Mayor Dan McLaughlin. "The village goes to great lengths to offer wonderful family entertainment year ‘round, the mayor said, referring to the village's full year of special events.

Orland Park's special events calendar begins in January with the village's annual Chilly Willie Chili Challenge, followed by the Chefs' Auction to benefit Breast Cancer Research in February.

"When people think of special events, they may only think of outdoor activities," McLaughlin said. "This isn't the case in Orland Park. Our staff puts together wonderful special events year round, most of which are made possible because of the generosity of corporate sponsors," he noted.

Spring brings a plethora of Recreation Department events, followed by the village staff moving into high gear for its many summer gatherings.

The village's Orland Park Theatre Troupe begins its annual season with a Broadway musical in the spring, followed by two additional shows throughout the year. The troupe is currently rehearsing for its "Back II Broadway" dinner theater shows at the Orland Chateau, further information about which is available with the Recreation Department at 708/403-7275.

"Once the weather warms up, Orland Park goes into high gear with its special events calendar, bringing the community together for a number of celebrations," McLaughlin said.

The season begins with Orland Park's annual Farmers' Market which opened at the end of May. Fresh produce, flowers and more are available for purchase every Friday through early October, except for July 3 and 31, from 7:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

The village's free Summer Entertainment Series also begins in June, providing free Sunday evening and Wednesday morning entertainment.

Village sponsored special events continue through the summer months, with a number of Family Fun Nights held at Orland Park's Centennial Park Aquatic Center.

This year, the Open Lands of Orland Park will host its annual Garden Walk on June 28. The Recreation Department will hold its pre-July 4th 5K Liberty Run on July 3.

"Orland Park's July 4th Celebration is one of the best in the Chicago area," McLaughlin said. "Each year, we have two fun-filled days of activities at Centennial Park, all culminating with a beautiful fireworks presentation set to music," the mayor said.

The Taste of Orland Park will be held July 31, August 1 and 2, followed by the Orland Park Police Department holding its National Night Out Against Crime on August 4.

"The Taste of Orland Park is a summer highlight for the entire community," the mayor said. "It's a wonderful reunion as people come to the Taste and see old friends and neighbors they haven't seen in a while," he added. "It's also a great showcase for the many fine restaurants in town," McLaughlin said.

"Last year's Taste was a tremendous success," the mayor said, "The community was very pleased to be able to sample dishes from a number of Orland Park restaurants and the restaurants were glad to get their names out to the public."

The Chicago White Sox have designated Wednesday, August 5 White Sox game as the "Village of Orland Park Grand Slam Group Event" at U.S. Cellular.

"We invite everyone, whether they're from Orland Park or not, to take advantage of the discounted tickets available for August 5 when the White Sox take on the Angels," the mayor said. Ticket order forms for the event are available on the village's website at www.orland-park.il.us.

The mayor added, "Cub fans are welcome to join us too," noting that the Cubs organization doesn't sponsor community nights as the White Sox do.

As the seasons change, Orland Park's special events move indoors with a number of activities hosted by the village's Recreation and Parks Department.

"We're back outside at Orland Park's Winter Wonderland when the snow falls," McLaughlin said, adding that ice skating, sledding and cross country skiing are all available at Centennial Park each winter. "During the holidays, we also have our lighted displays at Centennial Park, which makes it even more scenic."

"Orland Park prides itself on the level of community spirit that our residents have," the mayor said, "We receive a great response to each of the village's special events that bring all of us together as a community."
