The Village of Orland Park will officially welcome the 2014 holiday season on Sunday, November 30 with its annual Holiday Festival and Mayor Dan McLaughlin’s Tree Lighting Ceremony.

The free holiday festival, held at the Orland Park Civic Center, begins at 3 p.m. with the mayor’s arrival with Santa Claus. WGN Radio Morning News Anchor Andrea Darlas, an Orland Park native, will join the mayor and Santa for the festivities.

“We invite everyone to welcome the holiday season to Orland Park,” McLaughlin said. “We’re especially pleased to have WGN Radio’s Andrea Darlas join us for the festivities. Andrea grew up in Orland Park and has been a part of the Chicago media for a number of years. She’s been a great supporter of many causes in the south suburbs and we’re all very proud of her,” he added.

The afternoon includes visits with Santa, horse drawn carriage rides, face painting, make and take crafts, live entertainment and concessions. The Orland Park Civic Center is located at 14750 South Ravinia Avenue, one block west of LaGrange Road/US Route 45.

At 5:45 p.m. the mayor, Santa and Darlas will light the village’s 32 foot tree in the circle drive in front of the adjacent Frederick T. Owens Village Hall at 14700 South Ravinia Avenue. The tree has been decorated with ornaments provided by local individuals, families, scouts and organizations.

“Thank you to everyone who created ornaments for the village’s community tree,” McLaughlin said. “We’re looking forward to having everyone join us as we light the tree and simultaneously light everything down Ravinia Avenue as we welcome the holiday season to Orland Park,” he said.
