Water Main Break Repair Requires Street Closure
Posted on 08/31/2010

An emergency repair is required for a leak involving a water main located beneath 108th Avenue at Crystal Springs Lane. This repair will require that 108th Avenue be closed to through traffic overnight beginning at 8:00 p.m. tonight, Tuesday August 31, from 143rd Street to 153rd Street within the Village of Orland Park.

During the closure, local residential traffic will be allowed access from either 143rd Street or 153rd Street to the point of the repair at Crystal Springs Lane only. There will be no through-traffic allowed during the closure period, which is expected to extend through 7:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, September 1.

To prepare for the overnight repair work, crews will install a water control valve on the water main near Crystal Springs Lane beginning at 1:00 p.m. today. Water service to the residents on Crystal Springs Lane will be interrupted from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. while this work is completed. There is no road closure associated with this advance work.

Beginning at 8:00 p.m. tonight, Tuesday August 31, through-traffic wanting to use 108th Ave will be detoured on 143rd Street and 153rd Street westerly to Wolf Road. This detour will remain until approximately 7:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, September 1.

At approximately 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, for approximately two hours, traffic on 108th Avenue near the repair site will be reduced to one lane with flaggers for pavement repair work required because of the water main repair. Should inclement weather delay Wednesday's planned pavement repair work, 108th Avenue will remain open to through traffic.

The Village of Orland Park appreciates everyone's patience while this emergency repair is completed. For additional information, please contact Orland Park Public Works Department at 708-403-6350.
