Weekly recycling service for residents of the Village of Orland Park begins the week of November 4 with trash collection continuing on a weekly basis.

As part of the new ten-year contract approved by the village and Waste Management in June, village residents will receive increased recycling service with collection every week. The grey containers, issued at no additional cost to each household, are designated for trash materials, and the blue carts remain for recyclables.

“Increasing the recycling collection was a key part of the new agreement,” said Mayor Dan McLaughlin. “In addition to the increased recycling service, the new refuse carts provided by Waste Management will result in a cleaner community and eliminate the residents’ need to purchase their own refuse carts.”

Waste Management delivered the new 96-gallon or 64 gallon grey carts to residents the last month.

“If residents prefer a different size container and wish to exchange their trash cart for the other size, they may call Waste Management if they have not already notified them of the request. Requests should be made by calling 800-796-9696 during the week of November 4,” said Mike Morley, Waste Management municipal marketing manager for Orland Park. “We will exchange the previously issued refuse cart with the new cart size upon the resident’s request if they call that week.”

Carts come in either 96-gallon or 64-gallon sizes. Waste Management asks that residents leave the previously issued cart in a location on their property where the exchange can be made. Cart exchanges may occur over several weeks depending on volume.

Residents are reminded that their refuse, recycling and yard waste should be placed at the curb by 6a.m. on their day of collection.

There will be no collection service on six designated holidays including New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. If a scheduled collection falls on a holiday or the day after, collection will be delayed one day.
