The world's leading natural and organic foods supermarket is coming to Orland Park. On Wednesday, February 8, Whole Foods Market announced its plans to open a 27,000 square foot store at 15260 South LaGrange Road.

"We are very happy that Whole Foods chose Orland Park, Illinois for one of their eight new stores across the country," said Orland Park Mayor Dan McLaughlin. "We are also very pleased that the store will be located in an existing building," the mayor added.

Slated to open in the fall of 2012, the Orland Park store will focus on fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, specialty items, high quality meats and poultry, every day pantry staples and sustainable seafood.

In the company's statement announcing the Orland Park store, Whole Foods Midwest Regional President Michael Bashaw said, "At Whole Foods Market, we strive to offer the freshest, most flavorful natural and organic foods available and we are overjoyed to finally announce our entrance into the Orland Park community."

Founded in 1980 in Austin, Texas, Whole Foods Market is America's first national certified organic grocer. The company was named "America's Healthiest Grocery Store" by Health Magazine. The company currently has 317 stores.

"Whole Foods coming to Orland Park is a great addition on so many levels," said Trustee Kathy Fenton, chair of the village's Development Services Committee.

"They're moving into the former Borders Store, bringing 150-160 new jobs and another grocery store for area residents," Fenton said, adding that the company has been named by Fortune Magazine as one of the "100 Best Companies To Work For" in the U.S. for fifteen consecutive years, every year since the list's inception.

"New businesses moving into existing buildings helps keep the village's commercial vacancy rate well below the state and national averages," McLaughlin added.

The mayor said, "Orland Park is very excited to be Whole Foods only south suburban location and are especially pleased with the company's commitment to the environment which fits well with Orland Park's village wide green initiative."

The company has a number of Chicago stores with suburban locations in Deerfield, Evanston, Hinsdale, Naperville, Northbrook, Palatine, River Forest, Schaumburg, Wheaton and Willowbrook.
